Roberto and Carla Starc

Born in Argentina from Slovenian immigrants of Northern Italy, Roberto Starc became an Air Force officer on his 21st birthday.
As a test pilot in the 50's he became one of the first jet fighters of the Southern Hemisphere (on Argentina's Pulqui II, designed by Luftwaffe's Kurt Tank) as well as the lead test pilot of the Pucara, the only plane designed and built in South America to ever serve in a war (against terrorism between 1975 and 77 and against the British in 1982).

Other distinctions include:
- two tours of duty, fighting under UN command in the Belgian Congo (1962 and 1963)
- graduating from Edward's USAF Test Pilot School in class of 64C alongside various astronauts, under Chuck Yeager
- Air Attache to the Soviet Union (1977-1979)

Carla grew up in a Flemish household of the Belgian Congo and married Roberto in Leopoldville, at age 17. A dedicated housewife, she followed him to Argentina and then around the world as demanded by his career.
In 1993 she founded ABBA, the Belgian Association of Buenos Aires, and later the European Club of Buenos Aires which provides scholarships, financial help and networking opportunities to expats and descendants of European immigrants throughout Argentina.
After more than 40 years with Roberto, her passions include cooking, Nature, Chopin, following the NYSE on her MacBook and caipirinhas on the beach with her family.
